HOW DO I CHOOSE A SPORTS BRA?

A sports bra can be used for a variety of activities, from high-impact training to loungewear and everything in between. With so many options, it can be overwhelming to pick which sports bra to buy.

Here are our tips to picking the right sports bra for you:

Each women is unique and we all have our own needs for fit, comfort and use. And of course, we also want to look and feel our best in what we wear. What unites many of us is our common frustration with ill-fitting or uncomfortable sports bras, the struggle of putting on a sports bra without breaking a sweat, and the joy of ripping them off post-workout.

Our mission at Rubisnacks to solve this by designing a sports bra you love to wear, which makes you feel inspired to move, and that’s easy and comfortable. (In our opinion, you should break a sweat when you’re working out, not when you’re getting dressed!)

NEEDS & LIFESTYLE:

When researching the best sports bra for your needs, it’s helpful to think about your lifestyle and activities you want to use it for.

For example, think about what your fitness goals are and what activities you will do to achieve these goals. Often people will incorporate a cardio exercise and a strength training exercise into their fitness routine. Will this include running or a machine at the gym? A weight training regime or at-home body weight exercises? Or, do you play a particular sport or belong to a functional training box or yoga studio?

IMPACT LEVEL:

Once you’ve determined the types of activities for which you’ll use your sports bra, you can next think about the impact needs for these activities and your personal style. Not only does a sports bra need to perform well in terms of function and fabrics, you also need to feel comfortable in it - both in fit and how it suits your style.

Some women like a compression style sports bra that keeps them feeling tight and in. Whereas, others prefer a slightly more relaxed fit that is still supportive but with a bit more room to breath.

This can also change depending on activities - whereas with running, you may feel comfortable in a compression style sports bra and with yoga, you prefer a looser fit.

SIZE & FIT:

Lastly, size and fit. We know our bodies and our preferences. Some bras are sized with cup and bust, like a typical bra, whereas others are sized by small, medium, large, x-large, etc. This also varies across brands.

Sometimes you can also wear two different sizes depending on the needs - if you are a medium and want a tighter, more compression fit, you could consider sizing down, whereas if you wanted a looser fit, you could size up.

To help, we’ve put together a size guide specific for our bras which you can refer to here.

FEEDBACK FROM OUR CUSTOMERS:

  • Women who have a wider back and smaller cup size prefer the Mercury style because it is more open in the back and free-feeling. If this is similar to your body type and you are interested in an Artemis style, consider sizing up.
  • Women that are taller tend to like the Artemis with the adjustable strap lengths and options so the strap doesn't cut into their shoulders.
  • Women that have a larger cup size tend to like the Mercury style because it is less compression and has a bit more room in the cups.
  • Overall, our customers are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable these bras are and they end up wearing them for more things that they thought - some say they wear them all the time, all day!
